Score Big Without the Injuries

March Madness may motivate you to visit the court and hoop it up. More than half of collegiate men’s basketball injuries occur in the lower extremities, such as the foot and ankle. Basketball injuries commonly result from repetitive jumping, landing, turning, and moving quickly or suddenly. As competition increases, so do injuries; however, proper conditioning and prevention measures can decrease the likelihood of sports-related injuries.

Eastern Oklahoma Orthopedic Center offers the following prevention tips to reduce injuries in athletics:

  • Warm up before any sports activity.
  • Always remember to stretch prior to any activity.
  • To build muscle strength, participate in a conditioning program.
  • Make sure to wear the proper equipment and attire.
  • Replace old and worn out equipment.
  • Eat a well-balanced diet.
  • Limit participation and intensity if your experience any pain.
